Scott Pilgrim, Vol. 1 - A quirky indie graphic novel about a guy who falls for this chick, and finds out he has to do battle with her Seven Evil Ex-Boyfriends. Decided to pick it up because there's a film adaptation coming out in August. The book's sorta cute, and occasionally funny, but I doubt I'm gonna wind up grabbing the other 6 volumes. Indifferent

Thunderbolts- i got the graphic novel for 3 bucks at an Asian store. I LOVED this comic in the 90s, and this collects the earliest issues of what was once one of the finest sueprhero books out there.

Me, the Mob, and the Music - Tommy James

If you're a musician, then place yourself in the seemingly innocent music scene of The Pre-Hippie 60's. Let's say you're from a small town in Michigan (Niles, in this case), and just broke up with a band who was predicted for good things with a certain record that was a local hit. You still have some, but very very small, connections through working in the local record store and find out that "Hanky Panky" is now big in PA thanks to some DJ who was looking through a used record bin and heard it, and you still want to go on as a Musician.

A few days later, you find yourself on the carpets of a few big record labels looking for a deal - You're the "Hanky Panky" kid after all. Then, the potential of being on an Atlantic or Columbia is all pushed aside as one label looking for it's first hit in a long time SERIOUSLY wants it and tells all the rest that it's theirs. The head honcho's name is Morris Levy, the label is Roulette Records, and now you're with a new kind of "Family."

Welcome to the Music Business, 1966.

This is a great book!

White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day by Day - Richie Unterberger

By an historian I seriously respect, this is one of the ultimate books on what still is a very influential band many times imitated but never equaled. Lou Reed, one of the most respected writers in Rock; John Cale, one of the most innovative musicians of all time (as well as a Producer - He's recorded The Stooges' first album as well as some great works by Nico...and that's for starters); Sterling Morrison, Maureen Tucker, and even Doug Yule have helped create a history of music that has been considered the basis for what turned into Punk, New Wave, Post-Punk, and almost everything else connected to them, but shutting aside all hype and worship, The Velvet Underground were seriously a damn good band who flew in the face of the Technicolor Hippie scene of The Late 60's with sounds that were of the street, rooted in classic 50's Rock and Rhythm and Blues as well as confrontational Experimental sounds. They never were popular in their day - On-the-Four strict and solid in an era of over-long jamming and Bubblegum (except for their more experimental moments, of course), dressed in black during their first two albums when almost everyone else was flowing in seas of color, and writing songs about subjects like Heroin and Sado-Masochism, and being a part of the Andy Warhol scene in their first few years, The VU were picked up by MGM's sub-label Verve for their first three albums and later signed to Atlantic for their fourth resulting in a series of albums that had their audience but st the time never broke through although more importantly weaving a major influence on many musicians that came after that.

For those interested, this is one of the best books on them.
