Disney Pictures is already moving forward with plans for a sequel to "Tron Legacy" says Heat Vision.
Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who penned the first film, are already at work on scripting the sequel and are "working on a way to round the story into a trilogy."
No deals have been made with director Joseph Kosinski or the cast members to return, though sequel options were included in their deals for 'Legacy'.
'Legacy', itself a sequel the original 1982 cult classic "Tron", follows 27-year-old Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) looking into his father's disappearance who finds himself pulled into the same cyberworld of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years.
"Tron Legacy" opens in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theatres on December 17th. |

"The Incredibles" director Brad Bird and "Toy Story 3" screenwriter Michael Arndt apparently helped out penning script changes for reshoots on "Tron: Legacy" for Disney Pictures says Entertainment Weekly.
Director Joseph Kosinski screened an early cut of the film at Pixar in March, afterwards Disney hired the pair to work with the film's original writers, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, on six days of reshoots which took place last month to help beef up the character and emotional elements of the story.
Sean Bailey, a former producer on the project who left it a few months back to become Disney's president of production, says that "Tron: Legacy is very much Joseph Kosinski's vision... what I give Joe and the filmmaking team immense credit for, is this was all born out of how do we give the fans the best movie we can. We were very fortunate that Pixar wanted to play a part in it."

The biggest panel of the first day and one of the strongest of the entire convention, Disney went all out for their third time in San Diego with "Tron Legacy". Moderator Patton Oswalt proved to once again be essentially the best moderator of the entire convention.
Director Joe Kosinski, producer Sean Bailey, creator Steve Lisberger and the film's actors Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen, Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges all showed up to talk the new take on "Tron", preceded by a quick video montage which showed the influence of "Tron" in pop culture from "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" references to a "Tron on Ice" stage show which Oswalt spent time riffing on along with joking about an 'in memoriam' montage for those fans who've died in the past 27 years waiting for this project to happen.
The film is very much shot in 3D, no post-conversion, while the bodysuits have their own in-built lights unlike the original where everything was animated on. Jeff Bridges not surprisingly scored the most love from the crowd with much of the questions revolving around him playing both his current age and a 35-year-old version of himself and even acting against himself at some points.
The high point was not surprisingly an excellent eight minute clip of what looked like completed footage that essentially showed off Garrett Hedlund's first scenes within the TRON world. Captured by a recogniser and selected for the 'Games' division, four women in white use finger lasers to strip him and put on his black bodysuit and disc. The little touches are superb - restraints are made of glowing line projections, Daft Punk's score is so going on my Christmas list (and I don't collect film scores at all), and the quick cut montage at the end showing off Sheen's nightclub owner, both Bridges in action, etc.
The other big surprise was the entire 6,500 strong crowd was asked to participate in several minutes of sound recording which will be used in the final film during some kind of stadium sequence. The crowd had to shout words like 'De-Rez' and 'Disk Wars' over and over, and later did some co-ordinated stomping. The inevitable jokes followed about people outside thinking some kind of Nazi rally was going on.
The panel closed with the 2.5 minute trailer which is currently up on the trailers page. "Tron Legacy" was all over the rest of the convention as well with parties on Thursday and Friday at Flynn's Arcade which opened into a Tron world-inspired nightclub. |
