BATMAN: ASSAULT ON ARKHAM (2014) - The Dark Knight actually takes a backseat this time, as Amanda Waller assembles a team of convicts to break into Arkham Asylum and steal an important flashdrive hidden in the Riddler's cane.

A good 40 minutes shorter than the live action SUICIDE SQUAD (2016), but still a more coherent story. Deadshot (Neal McDonough) is cool, Harley Quinn (Hynden Walch) and Killer Frost (Jennifer Hale) are hot, and Killer Shark (John DiMaggio) is funny. Also on hand is Kevin Conroy, reprising the role of the Caped Crusader (for many kids who grew up on The Animated Series, Conroy's the definitive Batman). 4 stars out of 5.

Cool! I saw that Netflix had a few BATMAN animated films. We shall watch them soon.

Ex Machina

A young programmer is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in synthetic intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a real humanoid A.I.

A visually stunning film that is far more reliant on ideas than effects for an extremely engaging tale from a future maybe not too far away.

Director: Alex Garland
Running time: 108 minutes
Released: 2014

John Wick

An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him.

Keanu lose wife, don't even shed a tear. Keanu lose car, goes apeshit and kill all of the baddies. Gun-fu action sugar coated with stylish cinematography. Overrated!

Director: Chad Stahelski
Running time: 101 minutes
Released: 2014

Total Recall

When a man goes for virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real - or does he?

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in a violent and satirical sci-fi action flick from the director of Robocop, Basic Instinct, Showgirls and Starship Troopers. And lets not forget about Sharon Stone, who was dropdead gorgeous.

Director: Paul Verhoeven
Running time: 113 minutes
Released: 1990

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS (2013) - In an alternate version of the mid-1980s, an aged Bruce Wayne dons the cape and cowl after a 10 year absence to take down a street gang called The Mutants. In so doing, he raises the eyebrows of TV pundits, the Joker, and even Ronald Reagan!

Originally released in two parts, the Deluxe Edition DVD combines them into one 2.5 hour animated epic. A good combo of superhero fantasy and political satire, with solid voice acting from the likes of Peter Weller (ROBOCOP) as Batman, Ariel Winter as Carrie Kelley/Robin, and Conan O'Brien as talk show host (what a stretch) David Endochrine. Also there's a badass synthwave soundtrack. 4 stars out of 5.

I need this. And isnt it strange that Peter Weller is Batman?

Power Rangers

A group of high-school kids, who are infused with unique superpowers, harness their abilities in order to save the world.

It's morphin time! A winning and cartoonish coming-of-age tale about supermodel-pretty misfit kids bonding in the belly of an alien spaceship.

Director: Dean Israelite
Running time: 124 minutes
Released: 2017

It's actually not that good. Batman/superman public enemy is better

SABAN'S POWER RANGERS (2017) - Five teenagers with attitude stumble upon mysterious coins that give them super-strength. With the help of an ancient alien named Zordan (Bryan Cranston), the teens must learn to become a team and stop Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) from destroying the world!

A solid flick, equal parts teen dramedy and action adventure. Plenty of nostalgia for 90s kids like myself. 3.5 stars out of 5.
