Joe and Anthony Russo are stepping outside of the Marvel cinematic universe for their next project. The Russo Brothers will team with Paramount TV and Hulu to adapt cult classic gang film The Warriors into a one-hour television drama.

The Warriors is a 1979 film adaptation of the Sol Yurick novel of the same name. Walter Hill directed the film. According to Deadline, the Russos are hoping the adaptation will honor the original film while adding “its own brand of grit, pulp, sex and violence.” The Russos will team with Frank Baldwin for the project, which is still without a director.

The Warriors takes place in New York City in 1979, when the city was still ravaged by territorial gang violence. The film’s story begins with a leader summoning all of the gangs of New York together in hopes of taking control. That leader is murdered, and the blame is falsely placed on the shoulders of a gang called the Warriors. The film then follows the Warriors as they try to make their way home while every other gang in the city is hunting them down. The most iconic scene from the film comes when the character called Luther summons the Warriors to “come out and play.”

Joe and Anthony Russo are two for two with Marvel Studios, having directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, two of the most critically-acclaimed installments of the Marvel cinematic universe so far. Their next Marvel project is Avengers: Infinity War, a two-part epic that will pit Earth’s mightiest heroes against Thanos, the Mad Titan.

It was already tried in 1980 and it flopped a TV show glorifying street gangs didn't fly too well then and it won't now.

It was named the Warriors and I believe it was a mid season or summer series it had them working for a NYPD detective fighting crime the only thing that I remember of it was how terrible it was but with the success of the Sopranos and Sons Of Anarchy this one might do better might even get a full season.
