Soaring to the top of the box-office this weekend and scoring excellent reviews, John Krasinski's horror film A QUIET PLACE has been enough of a success that talk of a sequel has already begun. Funnily enough, it seems the film's scribes Bryan Woods and Scott Beck already have a handful of ideas for a follow-up. Speaking with Fandango, Beck says he and Woods have plenty of stories and set pieces they didn't use that could be tweaked for a sequel:

"There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It's just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does this situation mean to that dynamic?"

Kosinski himself also re-wrote the pair's script, making some adjustments such as the sand paths, but the most notable change was he ditched flashbacks that were in the original script. Producer Andrew Form tells Heat Vision:

"Initially, there were flashbacks where the characters talked. Also, the sibling's death was handled in a flashback. John was adamant that we get rid of it, making it present day and kept the urgency of the storytelling."

A QUIET PLACE sequel: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is planning to make A QUIET PLACE sequel after the first movie opened three weeks ago to outstanding box office returns, giving the beleaguered studio a much needed shot in the arm. Since opening in theaters on April 6, it has grossed over $213 million worldwide on a $17 million dollar budget.

"We're already working with these guys on a sequel," studio chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos said."If you told me five years ago that an almost silent film starring the very funny guy Jim from 'The Office' would have been a hit at Paramount, I would have said, 'Well, I should go work at Paramount.'"

In the wake of the major success of the horror film A QUIET PLACE, the nearly immediate announcement of a sequel by Paramount Pictures came as little surprise. Even so, the film's star and writer/director John Krasinski has revealed to Deadline web site he didn't expect such a response to his first horror film, one that he made as a stand-alone piece:

"It's only a short while since the movie came out, but already people are saying, 'We want to live in this world more,' which is really interesting. I'm surprised people aren't like, 'Nah, we know what this is, and we just want to leave it as it is.' To be perfectly honest, it was never really on my mind while we were making it. I never really thought of it as an expanded world; I always thought of it as a one-off.

Krasinski has not yet confirmed he will helm the next installment, but does discuss what he'd like to see in a sequel: "The thing that I loved in the movie, where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?

In the extreme these characters are going through, there's no room to think about that. They're there, there's an old man who's about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what's going on elsewhere at this same time."
