THOR 3: Just twenty-some hours after the first word on Captain America 3, Variety have followed through with the names of writers that Marvel have set to work on Thor 3.

First of all there’s Christopher Yost, an alum of the first Thor film and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. And then there’s Craig Kyle, Yost’s co-writer on some Marvel comics and a sometime senior VP of production at Marvel Studios.

According to Kevin Feige, Kyle has had quite some influence over the Thor series so far:

I am proud of Craig and have enjoyed working with him over these past years. His creative instincts have helped shape Thor and Thor: The Dark World at every level of the filmmaking process. The entire team at Marvel is very happy to continue collaborating with Craig as he continues as a screenwriter working with Christopher on the forthcoming chapter of Thor’s adventure.

What's interesting about the Phase Three films that Marvel is planning to make is that they are all going to have to be fairly focused on moving major story elements forward, considering what happens to the team at the end of "Avengers: Age Of Ultron." If the first film was all about building the team for the first time and proving that they could work together, it was also about Thanos testing Earth's defenses so he could figure out what he was up against. "Age Of Ultron" is more focused on each of The Avengers having to deal with the results of actions we've seen from them in earlier films, with some serious fall out on every front. By the end of the film, the team that we saw in the first film will be shattered. There will still be a group of people called The Avengers, but it's not going to be Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America anymore. The third film will have to bring everyone back together to stand against Thanos as he finally makes his move on Earth, and considering how many of the Infinity Stones he'll have by that point, I'm not sure how anyone's going to plan to stop him.

More importantly, if my sources are correct, the end of "Age Of Ultron" sets up a difficult situation for Thor as Midgard and Asgard find themselves looking at a possible war. Could we be looking at the beginning of Ragnarok, brought on by Loki in the guise of Odin? Could the third film find Thor having to fight against the realm that he's spent so much time defending?

It's hard to put confidence in this source since we really have no idea who that source is, but Kyle himself has previously talked about a possible future story arc for the third film, and even hinted at Ragnarok. He talked about all this stuff during a set visit with several websites, saying,

“This is Hall of Science again, another place you’re going to see today. This is gonna be a pretty neat spot that we actually get to explore, which will go into the various breakthroughs and discoveries of the Asgardians where you’ll see functioning models of the Big Bang and all these wonderful technologies that no human has ever laid eyes on before.
"And inside’s gonna be this living tree, which we believe is connected to Yggdrasil, the cosmic tree. And the effects and woes and success of the universe are spoken through this, this living object. So, should the end of all things ever come this would probably be the first thing to fall. And we have a really tremendous scene in here with Thor and Odin.”
When "The end of all things" was brought up, Kyle was asked if he was talking about Ragnarok and he replied,

“It’s one of the bigger stories, right? [LAUGHS] So, who knows? [LAUGHS]“

For those of you not familiar with the story arc, Ragnarok is an apocalypse of sorts that represents the end of Asgard. Ragnarok is an apocalyptic-battle that the Realm of Asgard has experienced over and over and over again. Ragnarok is a cycle of death and rebirth. It comes in cycles, randomly killing gods and restoring new gods with no knowledge of what took place. This is happening in an effort to sustain Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, which are celestial beings that are the gods of gods. They need this cycle to continue in order to survive. Thor is eventually made aware of this cycle and it pisses him off, because it robs his people of their glory and memory. Thor vows to restore his people's glory by ending the cycle. This will require Thor to form an alliance with his arch-nemesis Surtur. You can read more details about the story here.

In Norse Mythology and in Marvel Comics there are fallen warriors called the Einherjar, who spend their death feasting and continually fighting. They are waiting for the day of the Ragnarok where they can fight for Asgard once again.

This would make for a pretty epic storyline, and I hope it's the one that Kyle and Yost are bringing to the big screen!

While talking with Empire Magazine (via Comic Book Movie), actor and current Hulk Mark Ruffalo characterized the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok as something like a road movie.

“It’s not where you’d think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think,” he explained. Besides the structure, the film will also feature the missed-matched pair of Thor and the Hulk. “It’s not an accident that we’ve been put together because we have a good time together and we goof off,” Ruffalo said. “The fact that we’re moving towards the smart-comedic bent plays into our relationship.

“There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro,” he continued. “I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner.”

Thor: Ragnarok opens on November 3rd, 2017.

Following on from their "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel villain rumor, Geek.com has posted a report offering details on the antagonists in the upcoming "Thor: Ragnarok" which will shoot later this year in Australia.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD

The site claims that the main villain will indeed be the rumored Hela, ruler of the Underworld and the likely role that actress Cate Blanchett will play. She will team with Tom Hiddleston's Loki to banish Thor from Asgard and send him on a road trip-style movie:

"In Thor: Ragnarok, Hela and Loki will have set their plan well in motion by the time Thor gets wise to what's going on. Hela ends up creating the [inciting] incident to Thor's journey in the film. According to our sources, when Thor confronts Hela, things do not go well. Not only does she banish Thor from Asgard, but she destroys Mjolnir!"

That leaves the God of Thunder and Hulk traversing the Nine Realms without his iconic hammer. Of course his is all pure rumor at this point. "Thor: Ragnarok" opens in cinemas on November 3rd 2017.

In the past, actor Mark Ruffalo has offered an answer about rights issues when asked about the likelihood of a Hulk solo film. But he recently told Yahoo! Movies (spotted by comicbook.com) that the storyline in the upcoming Marvel Studios films will feel like Hulk’s solo outing.

“We’ve worked a really interesting arc into Thor 3, Avengers 3 and 4 for Banner that I think will – when it’s all added up – will feel like a Hulk movie, a standalone movie,” he said. He also reiterated the rights issue between Universal and Marvel that keeps a Hulk movie from going into development.

As currently understood, Universal has “the right of first refusal“ to distribute the film should Marvel ever put one into development.

In the meantime, Ruffalo said he is preparing to Thor: Ragnarok, which will see the Hulk team up with Thor. Director Taika Waititi recently said will be infused with more humor than the previous Thor outings.

While talking to Collider about his upcoming Hunt for the Wilderpeople, director Taika Waititi offered a few words about the tone of his upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.

Adding to actor Mark Ruffalo comments about the film having a buddy cop or Midnight Run feel as Thor and The Hulk are thrown together, Waititi said the characters lend themselves to a certain wackiness which can be found in the classic Marvel comics. “They’re wacky. They’re crazy,” he said. “I think that’s exactly what they need, to keep changing it up. They’ve got their dark films, some are more serious, and I think it’s great that they’re mixing it up. I really want to inject my style of humor into this.”

Waititi added that while the screenplay has its structure, he will be adding a little bit more humor; though it was unclear if he meant as a formal draft of the script or on-set. But he credits Marvel Studios with a willingness to try a different tone in the third Thor film. “They are constantly looking for the best story, they’ll tear everything down to rebuild it to make sure they have the best story,” he said. “That’s why Marvel is good, they keep pushing and pushing and trying to get the best thing possible.”

Thor: Ragnarok opens on November 3rd, 2017.

We recently heard more casting for Thor Ragnarok including both Jeff Goldblum and Karl Urban being added to the cast. Now, Joblo.com is claiming to have some knowledge of the plot of the film. Their sources say that the film will include elements of Planet Hulk, the Greg Pak storyline that dropped the gamma irradiated monster into gladiatorial games. Many fans have been calling for Marvel to adapt this film into live-action (as it has been done for animation).

The third Thor film will combine elements of Ragnarok with Planet Hulk where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) ends up on a planet where Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is competing in gladiator tournaments hosted by the Grandmaster (Goldblum). Word is that Hulk will be wearing armor similar to his appearance int he comic series. Thor will look different as well, with the Thunder God losing his long hair for a portion of the film.

As for why Thor is on the planet, he is looking for a weapon that will set the world right again and prevent Ragnarok. Odds are the weapon is somehow tied to one of the two missing Infinity Stones.

Its interesting to see the Grandmaster being brought in here in that he is a member of the Elders of the Universe along with The Collector who was introduced at the end of Thor: The Dark World before appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy. The original Contest of Champions was set up as a wager between the two.

Sam Neill Is In Thor: Ragnarok!

Thor: Ragnarok has really pulled together a pretty fascinating cast thus far, with Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum set to star alongside the Marvel regulars.

But, it seems Goldblum isn’t the only Jurassic Park alumni joining either. In an interview with Shortlist, via MCU Exchange, Sam Neill has confirmed he will be in the Marvel movie in some capacity. He said:

Oddly enough, I’m not really allowed to say this, and I can’t tell you what it is… I did a couple of days on Thor, just before I came over here.

I had to sign all sorts of things that say if I say anything else, Marvel’s Secret Agents, and they are lethal, will come and get me and probably my children as well.

He is SULFUR! I am 100% sure of it!

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Infinity Stones story thread has been lingering for a few years now. With five of the six accounted for on screen, only one remains a mystery – the Soul Stone.

Now a new fan theory published as an article by Comicbook.com is gaining traction online and has suggested that it has been right in front of our eyes the whole time. The theory says Heimdall, played by Idris Elba in the “Thor” movies, has the Soul Stone either with or within him. The author explains:

“In Norse mythology, Odin gives him his sight. Heimdall’s eyes are orange. In Thor: The Dark World, he is quoted saying he can see all the souls in the nine realms. And in Thor’s vision in Age of Ultron, Heimdal is blind. Thanos could have taken the stone from his eyes. It all fits.”

The only glimpse of the Soul Stone on screen has been in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” when The Collector explained them – and the Soul Stone’s color matches Heimdall’s eyes.

The main argument against the theory is the quote in “Thor: The Dark World” about not having “two Infinity Stones in the same place” in reference to Asgard, but it’s also not clear if even Heimdall himself is necessarily aware he has it. Elba returns to the role for “Thor: Ragnarok” which has already wrapped shooting and will hit cinemas November 3rd next year. If there’s any weight to the theory, that’s likely where we’ll hear it.

Following yesterday’s first photos, EW has released a proper breakdown of the full storyline for Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok”. Here’s their description

“When we last saw Thor, he was flying off to figure out who was manipulating the Avengers at the end of Age of Ultron. Eventually, he hears rumblings of trouble in Asgard: His evil brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), has been impersonating their missing father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins).

Loki’s rather lax governing leads to the reemergence of an imprisoned Hela (Cate Blanchett). Thor’s initial encounter with Hela gets him blasted to Sakaar, a barbaric planet ruled by the charming but nefarious Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), a tough, hard-drinking warrior hiding out on Sakaar brings the god to the Grandmaster. Sakaar’s most popular and successful gladiator? Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk. Once Thor and Hulk unite, Ragnarok becomes a sort of road-trip film.

In the same article Chris Hemsworth confirms Thor is “a bit of a fanboy for the Valkyrie, the elite women warriors” and he’s given the haircut and loses his hammer whilst on Sakaar.

Mark Ruffalo confirms we’ll see a different side to Hulk: “He’s much more of a character than the green rage machine you’ve seen in the Avengers movies. He’s got a swagger. He’s like a god.”

Director Taika Waititi was inspired by “48 Hrs” and “Withnail and I” for much of the film which aims to show off Hemsworth’s comedic abilities: “He’s so good and underutilized in that department. He’s legitimately one of the funniest things in this film.”

The overall aim with the film is to offer something that will not just standalone but reinvent the franchise: “A lot of what we’re doing with the film is, in a way, kind of dismantling and destroying the old idea and rebuilding it in a new way that’s fresh. Everyone’s got a slightly new take on their characters, so in that way, it feels like [this is] the first Thor.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” hits cinemas on November 3rd 2017.
