I won't lie: I think this looks good. I really don't like the other films in Darren Aronofsky's canon, but I know he's got talent.

The premise for this one is really interesting and the trailer is cool. I doubt this will be a success at the box office (who wants to see an intelligent sci-fi movie, anyway), but I hope it's a good film.

I love a good sci-fi flick.

The thing that I respect about this one is how much of a labor of love it's been for Aronofsky. That's either a really good thing or a really bad thing though!

It could be good becuase he's so passionate about it that it will be a very personal work for him. On the other hand, this film could've been with him for so long that he can't seperate himself from it....it could impair his judgement.

Still, I'll hope for the best.

There's a graphic novel coming out from Kent Williams (WOLVERINE MELTDOWN) that his based on the first and more epic script of THE FOUNTAIN. That might be worth checking out!

Wow! This one did very poorly at the box office (no surprise there!):

I'm gonna try and see this one soon regardless.

For some reason, it reminds me of the Soderbergh version of Solaris (which was excellent)...

***MAJOR SPOILERS***

I was able to download a CAM of it (hey I'm 100miles off the coast of south America!) :)

Excellent movie. I can see how it can be a fierce divider of people's opinions.
This is not a straight forward movie and not everything can be understood in one viewing.

The movie at it's core is a love story. It is told in metaphors and in three different time periods, The present, which is what is really happening in the story. The other two time periods are fictional, one occurs in 1500 representing the dying woman Izzy's battle with cancer and how she wishes her husband would understand why he doesn't have to be fearful of her death. The other time period takes place in 2500, which represents Tom's unyielding effort to bring his wife back from the brink of death by saving the tree of life, which contains his wife's spirit by flying it into a dying star.

The movie filmography is beautiful, esp many of the 2500 scenes.

The movie goes to show us that sometimes we have to accept death and instead of fighting it. Tom's character spends so much time trying to cure his wife's cancer, that he misses the simple point of taking her for a walk during the first snow fall of the season, helping her write her book, or gazing upon the stars with her. This is a very common theme in people that are dying, who are ready to die, while others clutch to anything they can hold on to.

In the end the movie is very sad, but very satisfying. I really enjoyed its refreshing take on the fountain of youth/tree of life story. I don't think everyone will like this movie and a lot of people will scoff at its notion, but hey that's life and there is a thin line between brilliance and ridiculousness.

The movie

Arronofsky is one of my favorite directors ever. I was looking forward to the Fountain as much I was looking forward to Sympathy for Ms. Vengeance.

Saw it first day and was ABSOLUTELY DISSAPOINTED.

I was hyped up too much I guess. I new that 'technically' it was a good movie but I thought the fountain was just lame. It sucked.

I might change my mind when I see it on DVD. It's a LOVE STORY and I hated it as much as I hate most love stories. It had good music and was well shot.....fucing love story.

Biggest dissapontment all year for me.

Just saw it tonight and I liked it.
It wasnt what I expected. Like Gollum said this is mainly a love story taking place now with 2 stories (one in the past and one in the future). Beautifuly shot, good storytelling and just "weird" enough to be interesting and different. Cant wait to get the DVD which will hopefully be loaded with extras!

2006 was a strong year for sci-fi with this one, A SCANNER DARLY, CHILDREN OF MEN and RENAISSANCE.

Universal Pictures has acquired "Black Swan," a psychological thriller to be produced by Protozoa and Phoenix Pictures reports Variety.

Darren Aronofsky ("The Fountain", "Requiem for a Dream") is attached to direct, and John McLaughlin has begun writing the thriller that looks at the manipulative relationship between a veteran ballet dancer and a rival.

The studio is fast-tracking the project to be Aronofsky's next. Aronofsky previously worked with McLaughlin on an adaptation of Dan Simmons' terror novel "Song of Kali"for New Regency.
