DId I mentioned just how much I liked this one?!
Wow! I can understand why this got a limited release. This movie is not your typical Hollywood fare. Its an interesting, intelligen, drug infested flick. Great performance from all the cast (yeah even Reeves) and superb visual. Loved the ending! One of my favorite of 2006

Wow really!?

I passed on this becuase I haven't liked much of Linklater's work and I DO like Dick's book.

I'll have to check this out though! I didn't hear too much on it (although another friend of mine loved it as well) and then just sort of forgot about it.

Glad to hear it's worth a look though...

Cool! You've definitely piqued my curiosity with this one.

Will I actually love a Richard Linklater film!?

nomystery, what was your name on the previosu forum?

As for SCANNER DARKLY... I'm surprised. I found the story to be very interesting, involving and intriguing... sure its a paranoia/drug flick but I loved it!

GAWD Eyes Arch I don't remember anymore that was last year sometime. Here is what I do remember............ I remember having a horrible experience with LUMINOUS then I e-mailed you all upset and I whined & whined & whined & whined in your ear. You were very simpathetic and nice and told me a few stories about that scammer. We E-mailed each other about 9 times. Shortly after that I remember making an account. I remember posting a few times. Then one day I logged into my account and I got some UNKNOWN USER MEMBER SHIT. After that I said ow well fuck it and ever sense then I just spent hours reading and lurking. Eventually I tried to make another account but I kept getting ERROR messages and shit. On the old board while navigating it i was never able to find a MEMBER FORUM LIST. If you could pull one up i'm sure I might be able to point out my old shits. Also sorry If I am of not much help. I am just happy as hell to be part of this board. Sweat

I finally caught up with this one the week before last. A Scanner Darkly was one of Dick's most personal stories, and I'm pleased to say that Linklater has done the material proud. On top of that, save one major change, it's the most faithful adaptation of Dick's work I've yet seen.

I was admittedly worried about the rotoscoping. Wasn't sure I'd be able to warm up to it, but as it turns out, it didn't bug me at all, and actually enhances the film, especially as relates to the scramble suits and the story's trippy nature. The actors are all quite impressive here too, my personal favorite being Rory Cochrane as the twitchy Freck. And Keanu? He's the best he's been since his turn in The Gift.

This is fascinating stuff. While often quite amusing, it also hits an emotional note in all the right places. The wonderful score really helps with the varying moods, my personal favorite piece of music in the film being the moody piece that plays over the very powerful ending. A superb film, undoubtedly one of the year's best.

Best scenes (*CONTAINS A SPOILER*):

Charles Freck's suicide attempt
Arctor's final discussion with his superior, "Hank"
The aforementioned ending

What was changed?
And I'm glad you liked it! I've been praising this one ever since I first saw it a few months ago. I sure didnt get the proper release it deserved!

Buddy of mine gave me his copy. Its a great picture. I agree with everything you said about it, ARC. And yes, I'm surprised I legitimately LIKED a Keanu Reeves performance.
