Starz has ordered up 10 episodes of ASH VS. EVIL DEAD. And get this… Bruce Campbell is reprising his role as Ash! "EVIL DEAD has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash's lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his 'boomstick,' Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there's a truckload of it," said Sam Raimi.

Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell will executive produce and Raimi will direct the first episode. "I'm really excited to bring this series to THE EVIL DEAD fans worldwide – it's going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor," said Bruce Campbell.

ASH VS. EVIL DEAD: Bruce Campbell reprises his role of Ash, the aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last three decades avoiding responsibility and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, he is finally forced to face his demons - both the personal and the literal.

Raimi will direct the pilot, which he will co-write with his brother Ivan along with Tom Spezialy. Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Campbell will executive produce, Ivan Raimi will co-executive produce, and Aaron Lam will produce. Raimi and Tapert had great success with Starz in the past, helping the network branch out into original programming with the highly successful SPARTACUS TV series. Another upside is that Starz has no problem showcasing a bunch of nudity and creative gore, with the latter a key part of the franchise's appeal.

The 10 episodes half-hour horror comedy where Ash takes a road trip to banish his demons alongside two young helpers and his trusty boomstick. Bruce Campbell told EW that a follow-up film would ultimately have been too expensive, but "in the format of a TV show, we could give people exactly what they wanted and expand the character and the story even more." Regarding his and Raimi's return, Campbell says, "The [fan reaction to the 2013 EVIL DEAD remake] was all 'Yeah, yeah, that was nice fellas, but we still want the real deal.' This is it."

On Ash in the present, Campbell continues, "Ash has survivor's guilt… He's a war vet. He doesn't want to talk about and he'll like about that stump on his hand to impress the ladies. That's what I look forward to playing—a guy with horrible flaws."

Appearing at Starz's recent TCA Winter Tour for the premium cable network, CEO Chris Albrecht talked briefly with IGN about one of the more anticipated shows they have in development - the EVIL DEAD series that reunites director Sam Raimi, actor Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert. Albrecht confirms that the choice of doing half-hour rather than hour-long episodes was the idea of the aforementioned trio, not the network. He adds: "I can tell you, it's a chock full half hour." The show is expected to film in New Zealand, much like Raimi and Tapert did with "Spartacus" for Starz over several years.

As for an airdate? "I think most likely it will be fourth quarter [of 2015]. End of third quarter, fourth quarter, something like that. We've got a lot of shows this year. We're very, very excited."

Campbell previously said in interviews that the show is "as big of a counterpart to WALKING DEAD as you could programme because Walking Dead is unrelentingly grim and hugely popular. We're going to give people a little of the old fashioned slapstick: horror and comedy."

tarz has revealed that Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo will join Bruce Campbell in ASH VS. EVIL DEAD, the TV-series follow-up to the classic feature films that rolls in New Zealand this spring and will premiere on the network later this year. Santiago will play Pablo Simon Bolivar and DeLorenzo will be Kelly Maxwell, and according to the official announcement, "Pablo Simon Bolivar is an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash's loyal sidekick—a Sancho Panza to Ash's Don Quixote. Pablo believes in Ash's heroism even if Ash himself doesn't. Kelly Maxwell is a moody wild child trying to outrun her past. Reluctantly dragged into the fight against evil with Ash and Pablo, Kelly finds a different kind of family with her fellow Deadite slayers." Santiago's many film and TV credits include the recently released SUBURBAN GOTHIC, while DeLorenzo has been seen in movies like THE MOLE MAN OF BELMONT AVENUE and A VERY HAROLD AND KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS.

Sam Raimi will direct the first installment of the 10-episode show, which he wrote with his brother Ivan, Craig DiGregorio and Tom Spezialy. Sam will also serve as an executive producer along with his longtime cohorts Campbell and Rob Tapert, with DiGregorio as executive producer/showrunner, Ivan Raimi co-executive producing and Aaron Lam producing. According to the official synopsis, "Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons–personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its 'Evil' grip."

Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert are currently working on the 10-episode series, which will premiere on Starz later this year in the form of a half-hour horror comedy.

The Dread Central web site spoke with Campbell, while also revealing a bit of a fleshed out synopsis of the pilot. Previous official word described the show as an Ash forced to face his demons, and a new plague of deadites. Dread's Sean Decker expands, "Having had a chance to read an early version of the pilot episode last year, I can concur. In it we are introduced to a nomadic Ash, a figure who's not only haunted by traumatic memories but also terrorized by the unwelcome continuance of Deadite attacks, which have followed him to the myriad Midwestern trailer parks he's been forced to call home. In an effort to eke out an existence and in keeping with his previous choice of career, the character spends his days working at Ted's Superclub as a stock room trainee and, in true Ash fashion, his evenings chasing skirt in roadside bars."

Speaking to this nomadic Ash, Campbell says, "I'm bringing everything to the table. It's a feisty version of Ash, who's grizzled and just wants to be left alone."

Recently, Dana DeLorezno and Ray Santiago were announced as joining the ASH VERSUS EVIL DEAD ensemble as Kelly and Pablo. "Santiago will play the role of Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash's loyal sidekick and believes in Ash's heroism even if Ash himself doesn't. DeLorenzo will play Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past and who is reluctantly dragged into the fight against Evil with Ash and Pablo. Kelly finds a different kind of family with her fellow Deadite slayers."

Their presence, Campbell says, speaks to a larger plan, revealing the hope for five seasons, possibly more new Evil Dead than we could've hoped for. Sam Raimi is directing the ASH VERSUS EVIL DEAD pilot.

Lucy Lawless joins ASH VERSUS EVIL DEAD: The upcoming series sees Bruce Campbell return as cult character Ash, who's still facing down deadites and dead ends. Lawless will play Ruby, "a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem: she believes that Ash (Bruce Campbell) is the cause of it all." Funny enough, the recently announced cast member Jill Marie Jones also essays a character after Ash, believing him responsible for a series of grisly murders. The knives are out for Ashley J. Williams.

Raimi will direct the first episode of ASH VERSUS EVIL DEAD, which heads into production this spring and is expected to premiere on Starz in a 10-episode season later this year.

Mimi Rogers has joined the highly anticipated sequel series.

In the series which reunites Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert in the universe of The Evil Dead, Rogers will play Suzy Maxwell, a woman who is reunited with her family and several uninvited guests after a freak accident. Rogers joins Campbell as cult movie icon Ash; Lucy Lawless as Ruby, a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks; Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash's loyal sidekick; Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past; and Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner.
