The latest issue of Dark Side magazine is another must read. First off, there's a interesting and rather intimate article on the Horror Channel. I didn't know that Jonathan Sothcott was behind this project! The guy wrote many great book inclusing one on Amicus (published by Stray Cat Publishing Ltd) and one on screen legend Christopher Lee... both books are reviewed in this very site. Also it was interesting to learn all the little conflicts and tribulations between Jonathan and the editor of Dark Side, Allan. The host they choose, Jade Fox is a beautiful chick who will surely make people watch the channel just for her! Still, Charlotte Edmonds would have been a better choice, oh well.
Allan takes a look at the recently released DVD box set of George A. Romero's living dead serie in the UK by Anchor Bay. The Dark Side Horror Guide continues with movies like TAXI DRIVER, TEACHING MRS. TINGLE, all the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES flicks, TEENAGE CATGIRLS IN HEAT, TEEN WOLF, THE TENANT, TENDERNESS OF THE WOLVES, TENEBRAE, the TERMINATOR movies, THE TERROR and more. As always the DVD review section is big, this time taking a look at the UK edition of Anchor Bay's set for SLEEPAWAY CAMP, SCARY MOVIE 3, Universal's Monster Collection fo Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy, THE MONSTER CLUB, HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB, CASTLE OF THE WALKING DEAD, THE NIGHT EVELYN CAME OUT OF THE GRAVE, TERROR TRAIN, DEAD END, THE HAUNTED MANSON (?!), THE ASPHYX and more!
With the Paramount box set coming soon, there's a retrospective on the popular FRIDAY THE 13TH serie which features an interview with the creator Sean Cunningham. Also they take a look at the Italian zombie craze of the of the late 70s, books and video ganmes reviews and a look at the best film of 2003, HAUTE TENSION.
But there's one thing I simply don't udnerstand, in Allan's editorial he praise the awful TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake... sorry but this is way beyond me, especially coming from a very knowledgeable fan like Allan. To each its own I guess.
